What is pushing up the mesh screen on my trap tunnel
Have you ever had your Rat Trap Tunnel mesh pulled up and and the trap set off? But nothing is in the trap.
This has happened several times to our traps, and we wondered what was causing it.
We were surprised to hear this may be Hedgehogs trying to get to the bait?
I got this tip from Tony Chad from the Pest Free Upper Hutt Group they add a small piece of wood that secures the mesh gate.
This stops anything moving the mesh upwards. Hopefully the predators don’t work out how to turn the lever.
Lets try this in the field and see what happens…

Do you have Pukekos in your area? Here is an interesting video of a Pukeko trying to get the eggs from a trap. This may be an issue in your area instead of Hedgehogs.
